Community Engagement and Philanthropy

The Communities Where We Live and Work

We want to build on decades of effort to continue being a positive force within our communities, especially as these global communities are where 48,000 of us live, work and play. This important community work is an integral part of how we hope to improve at least 10 million lives by 2030.

This work is not new to us. We launched our global Green for Good program in 2010 – a unique program that uses savings from our recycling efforts to fund vital community improvement projects often carried out by HanesBrands associate volunteers. Yes, one part of our sustainability program actually funds another.

Focusing on comforting those in need, education, healthcare, disaster relief and infrastructure development efforts, Green for Good has gotten behind a wide range of initiatives in our local communities from renovations of orphanages and schools, to establishing after school programs in partnership with Glasswing and USAID, to projects supporting daycare facilities, to providing product to those in need at large-scale – millions of garments. Green for Good has also helped fund associate education programs and life-changing surgeries with our partner Wake Forest University.

In addition to Green for Good, HanesBrands works hard to support our global communities through a range of philanthropic efforts and partnerships. This includes supporting numerous nonprofit initiatives ranging from the United Way, the NAACP Legal Defense Fund, Crosby Scholars, and a range of Historically Black Colleges and Universities in the U.S. to Special Olympics in Italy to Minus 18, the Reach Foundation and Homie in Australia.

Green for Good is a unique program that uses savings from our recycling efforts to fund vital community improvement projects.

This support has helped to alleviate poverty, educate many in the minority communities, support the needs of our LGBTQIA and other youth and assist individuals experiencing homelessness with much needed clothing. We have also historically provided millions of dollars of essential clothing and resources in response to hurricanes, other natural disasters, and those in particular need. Our partnership with organizations like Delivering Good has helped us to quickly get product where it is needed most. In 2023, we provided 3.58 million units of apparel to over 80 different organizations around the world.

We’re also proud to say that every year our associates devote tens of thousands of volunteer hours to support charitable work such as tree planting, community clean-ups and working with local schools. In fact, when surveyed in 2021, we found that our salaried workforce averages 9 volunteer hours per year, ahead of our 8 hour goal.
