Environmental Metrics: Water

DID YOU KNOW

…using less water means pumping, moving, heating and treating less – all of which consume energy and cost money.

Water is one of the world’s most precious commodities, and many apparel companies source cotton textiles and finished products from water-stressed regions. As most of the cotton we consume is grown in the southeastern U.S. and is transformed from U.S. yarn into fabric in our owned textile mills in the Dominican Republic and El Salvador, our water footprint is not the concern it is for many.

Natural rainfall in the southeastern U.S. typically exceeds the needs of the cotton plant, and our textile mills were purposely sited in areas that are not water-stressed.

That said, saving water is still a big deal for us. We want to use less for many reasons. It is simply better for the environment and using less means pumping, moving, heating and treating less – all of which consume energy and cost money.

We have made significant progress in our water reduction efforts as outlined in the data below which is measured against a 2019 baseline.
