OUR PLANET

Caring for people, communities, nature, and the planet is part of who we are and is built into everything we do. We believe in making the world a more comfortable place for every body, meaning we challenge ourselves to improve our environmental performance every day. We’ve set big ambitions, we know we must do more, and we’re committed to do just that.

Real change starts from within. That’s why we’re looking at every part of our business internally and across our entire value chain – from the cotton field to how consumers dispose of our products at the end of their life cycle. Unlike most other apparel brands, we own and run the majority (nearly 75%) of our product and fabric manufacturing. That makes a huge difference, helping us to think bigger, benefit from our investments, make quick management decisions, and have a greater impact.

Our Global Environmental Health and Safety (GEHS) management system provides clear policies and practical tools to keep environmental responsibility at the core of our facilities worldwide. Continuous improvement of our environmental performance is fundamental and fuels our innovation.

As part of our commitment to the environment, we’ve adopted the Higg Index to help consistently measure and improve environmental performance across our supply chain. Using the Higg Facility Environmental Module (FEM), our global sustainability team led efforts to register all owned and key contracted facilities, provide training on the tool, and establish processes for tracking performance. In 2023, 406 facilities completed the FEM self-assessment, and we continue to explore how Higg scores can enhance our overall vendor evaluations. We see the Higg Index as a valuable addition to our environmental efforts, reinforcing our drive for continuous improvement.

In addition, we are also promoting change across the apparel industry by participating in initiatives such as Cascale, formerly known as the Sustainable Apparel Coalition.

For our

We are aiming at:

Reducing 50% of our Scope 1 and 2 emissions by 2030 from a 2019 baseline.

Reducing 30% of our Scope 3 emissions by 2030 from a 2019 baseline.

Using 100% renewable electricity where reasonably possible in our owned operations through direct investment and renewable energy credits by 2030.

Reducing our water use by 25% in our owned operations by 2030.

Conducting a materiality assessment aligned to the Taskforce on Nature-Related Disclosures (TNFD).

Aligning our wastewater with Zero Discharge of Hazardous Chemicals (ZDHC) wastewater standards.

Adopting ZDHC as our Manufacturing Restricted Substances List (MSRL).

Achieving OEKO-TEX 100 certification covering 75% of our products by 2030.

Working only with facilities that complete Higg FEM and include scores in our facility evaluations (Tier 1 and 2).

 Areas of focus

Climate

This decade is critical for climate change. We must act decisively and promptly if we’re going to turn the tide and reduce the damage.

Water

Making clothing requires water, both in the production of raw materials (especially cotton) and during the manufacturing process.

Wastewater and Chemical Management

We’re proud of our facilities and the communities where they are located.

Nature

We recognize that our business is deeply connected to the natural world. As an apparel company, we rely on essential natural resources – like cotton, water and energy – to create the products our consumers love.
