PACKAGING

We know that product packaging is a big pollution problem contributing to unsustainable levels of waste on land and in our oceans. Innovation is driving much smarter packaging designs and materials that are gentler on the planet while still fulfilling their role of protecting and promoting our products.

Like many others, we currently use single-use plastic in our product packaging, but we’re actively working to reduce that. By 2030, our goal is to eliminate 50% of specific problematic packaging materials and target that 90% of all remaining single-use plastic in our packaging is recyclable. In 2024, we continued to build momentum by reducing the weight of our single-use plastics by 68% from a 2019 baseline, thanks to targeted packaging projects launched in recent years. Together, our 2024 packaging reduction efforts resulted in savings of $3 million. We recognize the complexity of this challenge and are committed to finding smarter, more sustainable solutions – whether that means removing unnecessary materials altogether or replacing them with options that can be more easily recycled or composted.

We partnered with How2Recycle in the U.S., adding recycling guides to nearly 500 million product packages to help consumers better understand how to recycle them — an effort that continues as we work to improve packaging clarity and circularity. We also partnered with the Australian Packaging Covenant Organization to add the Australasian Recycling Label to all product packaging to empower consumers to dispose of their packaging correctly and to reduce waste. Changing consumer behavior is a huge part of changing our future.

Sustainability Goals

Going forward, we are focusing on the elimination of our most problematic materials, increasing the use of recycled content, and improving the recyclability of our packaging.

Specifically, we’ll focus on transitioning away from virgin plastics where feasible, replacing multi-material components that hinder recyclability, and right-sizing packaging to reduce overall material use. We’re also working closely with suppliers to identify lower-impact alternatives that maintain product protection, and we’ll continue refining our packaging designs to meet recyclability guidelines in our key markets. These targeted actions will help us drive meaningful, measurable progress toward our 2030 goals.
