HBI Honduras Recognized for Volunteer, Disaster Relief Efforts

May 2022

At HanesBrands, our purpose is to create a more comfortable world for every body. HBI Honduras is living up to that purpose and has been recognized for its community involvement. Recently, the region received two awards, including the Honduran Foundation for Corporate Social Responsibility seal (FUNDAHRSE), and recognition from United Way Honduras.

The FUNDAHRSE Seal

For the 10th year, HBI received this honor for volunteer efforts including school renovations, providing free medical and dental care to the residents of Choloma and Villanueva, and more.

The FUNDAHRSE seal coincides with the achievement of 85,000 accumulated volunteer hours donated by HBI associates since 2014 to support the company’s CSR efforts. This award is considered the most prestigious CSR accolade in Honduras.

“At HBI, we are committed to positively impacting the lives of the people who live in the communities surrounding the plants, as well as implementing professional and personal growth programs for all of our associates,” said Alma Ariño, manager, Corporate Social Responsibility, HBI Honduras.

The United Way

In recognition of the company’s response to tropical storms ETA and IOTA, the United Way Honduras honored HBI for its disaster relief efforts. In the wake of these storms, HBI donated T-shirts, underwear, outerwear and other apparel to those impacted. The company also prepared 600 survival kits with food, personal hygiene items, and biosecurity products for associates and their families.

“At HBI Honduras, we are committed to supporting our associates and communities when natural disasters strike,” Alma added. “Everyone in our community worked together to make a difference.”

Accepting the award on behalf of Hanes Choloma was Alma, Mirna Bonilla, manager, human resources, Andrea Mena, plant manager, and Julio Vaquedano, operations manager.

These efforts also reflect the company’s progress toward our global sustainability goals, which seek to contribute to improving the lives of at least 10 million people through community improvement, health and wellness, and more by 2030.
