Second Wave of Action: HBI Costa Rica Team Returns to Clean Up Tivives Beach

July 2025

HBI volunteers in Costa Rica clean up more than 600 pounds of plastic, glass, and other non-biodegradable materials at Tivives Beach, a protected natural area known for abundant vegetation along its coastline.

60 HBI volunteers demonstrate their stewardship to the local ecosystem, helping to restore flora and fauna through their second cleanup of Tivives Beach, located in the Esparza canton of Costa Rica within the Tivives Protection Zone. As the last stronghold of the coastal tropical dry forest in the Central Pacific region, the area is recognized for its ecological significance.

Made possible through the team’s valuable alliance with the Esparza community, the successful volunteer activity was led by HBI Costa Rica’s sustainability committee presided by HBI Finance Analyst Associate Diana Solano, and was strongly supported by the group’s Emergency Brigade.

Associates helped to remove more than 600 pounds of plastic, glass, and other non-biodegradable materials, including plastic bottle caps that will be used in a community mural. Along with collecting bottle caps, the team is also raising awareness and encouraging ongoing efforts within the organization to support the environmental project led by the Esparza Sustainability Committee.

“The activity not only contributes to the preservation of the natural environment but also fostered teamwork, environmental awareness, and pride,” Roberto Mayer, Senior Vice President – HBI Supply Chain Operations, said. “It’s an opportunity to put our values into action, strengthen our presence in the community, and indicate how collaborative efforts can lead to meaningful, lasting change.”

As an apparel company, HBI relies on essential natural resources to create the products our consumers love. In turn, we’re committed to protecting our local communities and ecosystems, helping create a better world to grow into.

We are also working toward encouraging our associates to collectively achieve 100,000 volunteer hours per year. Learn more on our People page.
