A Greener Future Through Mangrove Tree Planting in Indonesia

HBI associates plant over 1,000 mangrove saplings on the coast of Bahagia Beach, Indonesia, to naturally shield the effects of climate change.

HBI associates attended the Jababeka Ecoweek at Bahagia Beach, Indonesia. Through this initiative, HBI and other companies in the country collaborated to plant mangrove trees along the coast, strengthening the beach’s coastal green belt.

The newly planted mangroves will act as a natural shield against abrasion, a buffer from strong winds and a frontline defense against the impacts of climate change.

The mangroves are projected to absorb up to 200 tons of CO2 equivalent annually, making a measurable contribution to climate mitigation. 

“The mangrove planting aligns with Indonesia’s national goal of achieving carbon neutrality by 2060, while also advancing our global sustainability strategy at HBI,” Minh Nguyen, Senior Manager, Global Environmental Sustainability, said. “Through sustained participation in initiatives like this, our plants aim to inspire a wave of positive change toward a greener, more resilient and globally competitive Indonesia.”

This marks the second year that the facility in Indonesia has participated in Jababeka Ecoweek, planting an additional 1,000 mangrove saplings in Muara Gembong, a coastal area in West Java province, to help prevent abrasion and tidal floods.
