Associates Help Restore Volcanic National Park in Costa Rica
November 2025
HBI volunteering activity helps revitalize the nature trails and infrastructure of a protected national park in Costa Rica.
We’re committed to strengthening the communities where we live, work – and now, where we trek.
Thirty-seven HBI associates visited the Prusia sector of Irazú Volcano National Park, home to the highest active volcano in Costa Rica and known for its biodiversity and breathtaking views.
Together, the team cleaned almost 4,000 feet of trails – doubling their initial goal – and restored the volunteer and researcher house, a space of great historical and functional importance for the park.
“Change starts right at home – in the communities where we live, work and thrive. Our associates continue to engage locally because protecting the planet also means caring for the people who call it home,” Roberto Mayer, Senior Vice President – HBI Supply Chain Operations, said.
The protected natural area also shelters local fauna, including birds, foxes and coati – a mammal native to Central America.
Our efforts are never one-size-fits-all. HBI is dedicated to protecting our local communities and ecosystems, and we are working toward encouraging our associates to collectively achieve 100,000 volunteer hours per year. Read more on our People page.
