HanesBrands Carries Out Improvement Day at Choloma and Villanueva Educational Centers

Tuesday, June 25, 2019

SAN PEDRO SULA, HONDURAS (June 2019) – With the support of more than 100 volunteers, HanesBrands successfully completed a day of renovation and improvement in four schools in the cities of Villanueva and Choloma in the Department of Cortés. The objective of the program is to improve the conditions in the infrastructure so that students and teachers have a better educational experience.

The beneficiary schools are part of those sponsored by the Community Youth Development Program, an alliance between Hanes and the non-profit organization, Glasswing International, through which employee volunteers participate as tutors in extracurricular clubs in various subjects so that students students expand their knowledge and skills.

To receive the infrastructure renovations, students, educators and parents of the schools participated in a competition submitting their proposals and justifying how the Community Youth Development Program has impacted their school.

At the José Trinidad Cabañas de Choloma school a play area was set up in the first grade classroom, while at the Marcelino Pineda López school in the same city, three murals were painted, and improvement works were carried out in green areas and gardens.

While in Villanueva, the José Trinidad Cabañas and Manuel Bonilla schools are being painted in their entirety with the institutional colors. In the latter, the bars and playground equipment found in the playgrounds were also painted.

“Our commitment to the youth of Choloma and Villanueva remains firm, because we have seen the positive changes that this program is having in the young people of these two communities who now have renovated spaces that allow them a better teaching-learning process, as well as areas appropriate for recreation, “said Alejandro Caldera, manager of social responsibility for HanesBrands in Honduras.

Hanes has been operating in Honduras for more than 27 years, and has in this country nine clothing and sewing plants for the manufacture of bras, sportswear, T-shirts, silk-screen printed garments and embroidered clothing where more than 10,000 Hondurans work, which represents more 15% of its workforce globally.
