With Nearly 200 Graduates, HanesBrands Celebrates Ninth Anniversary of Educational Program

SAN PEDRO SULA, HONDURAS (February 2, 2019) – HanesBrands successfully completed its most recent graduation from the educational program where 196 employees received different academic degrees and technical accreditations. 

For Carlos Cuestas receiving a university diploma did not only imply the fulfillment of a personal challenge. Thanks to the support of the company and his degree in psychology, Carlos was promoted to organizational development coordinator after working more than eight years as a sewing operator. 

“Our business vision has a component of connection with our associates, and we consider education as a fundamental pillar to improve the lives of both employees, their families and the communities we are part of,” said Eduardo Valerio, director HanesBrands organizational development. 

In the area of ​​secondary education alone, 142 bachelor’s degrees in science and letters were awarded to the collaborators who dedicated their free time to finish their classes within the HanesBrands Distance Education Technical Institute. At the higher level, 15 bachelor’s degrees were awarded in different specialties and at the technical level, 39 accreditations. 

Since the continuing education program began, Hanes has graduated 1,629 associates as high school graduates in Honduras, and according to Valerio explained, at the moment it has been one of the most successful programs at the regional level, since in El Salvador and the Dominican Republic they have equal results. satisfactory. 

Through the continuing education program, Hanes allows its collaborators who have not finished their baccalaureate, to finish it with a full scholarship and differentiated work hours so that they can study and work. Additionally, the program extends to first degree relatives of the employees. 

Hanes also has alliances with technical institutes and universities to facilitate its employees to continue their higher education. This year the organizational development team organized the first educational fair, in which information was provided about the agreements and special prices for its collaborators, with discounts that reach up to 50%. 

Hanes has been operating in Honduras for more than 27 years, and has in this country nine clothing and sewing plants for the manufacture of bras, sportswear, T-shirts, silk-screen printed garments and embroidered clothing where more than 10,000 Hondurans work, which represents more 15% of its workforce globally.
