Santo Domingo, DOMINICAN REPUBLIC (August 12, 2019) . On the occasion of the celebration of the 50th anniversary of the Free Zones in the Dominican Republic, the President of the Republic, Danilo Medina, recognized HanesBrands and other companies in the sector for their contributions on such relevant issues as innovation, social and economic contribution, the generation of foreign exchange, local development and the strengthening of the supply chain, among others.

In total, Hanes received four distinctions including the largest employer in the industry; that of a socially responsible company, that of a leading contributor to the growth of exports, and for its long history operating under the free zone modality.

In terms of exports, Hanes is a benchmark in the sector in the country and a key player in global operations. From the Dominican Republic, 80% of the 250 million iconic T-shirts that the company sells globally are exported annually, which represents a significant volume that reaffirms the relevance of the Dominican Republic for the North American market.

Regarding its initiatives in favor of local development, Hanes carries out various social responsibility projects in important areas of action, with emphasis on the areas of influence where the company is present. Here they stand out, programs of reforestation and environmental care, quality education and sustainable initiatives that promote values among workers and their families. Additionally, Hanes has an exemplary health program, through which free surgeries are provided to low-income people with the support of international organizations.

As part of the recognition made by President Medina, the president highlighted the importance of the more than 375,000 direct and indirect employees who have collaborated for 50 years in strengthening the free trade zone; including the Las Américas and San Isidro Free Zones. Hanes has been operating in the Dominican Republic for more than 46 years and employs about 8,000 employees
