Glasswing: How Associate Volunteers Really Make a Difference
PEOPLE STORIES
Since 2010, HanesBrands has partnered with Glasswing International in El Salvador, Honduras and the Dominican Republic to improve education, repair school infrastructure, reduce dropout rates and reduce community violence.
Each year, hundreds of HanesBrands volunteers donate their lunch breaks to attend local schools; lead after-school clubs dedicated to sports, technology, art, leadership, girls’ empowerment, homework, and academic tutoring; and participate in weekend School Extreme Makeover events to improve school facilities.
Since the program started in 2011 Hanes has contributed more than $1.8 Million to this program.
Glasswing coordinates the program and trains our associates. Currently, we’re serving 14 schools in the region, with more than 1,200 children attending our weekly volunteer-led clubs. More than 300 HanesBrands associates participate in the program, and many have become role models for the program’s children. One of those volunteers is Reymundo Carballo, an employee from our El Pedregal facility in El Salvador. Despite being physically disabled, Reymundo trains a boy’s soccer club in his community on weekends. Recently, he traveled to New York to receive an award for his achievements during Glasswing’s annual gala.
