HanesBrands Donates N95 Respirator Masks to Forsyth County Hospitals and First Responders

Wednesday, April 1, 2020

WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. – (April 1, 2020) – Committed to doing its part to help during the COVID-19 pandemic and critical shortage of medical face masks, HanesBrands has donated 6,500 N95 respirator masks to hospitals and first responders in Forsyth County.

The company donated 2,500 masks to both Forsyth Medical Center and Wake Forest Baptist Medical Center and 500 each to the Winston-Salem Police Department, Forsyth County Sheriff’s Department and Winston-Salem Fire Department.

“First and foremost, we want to express our heartfelt appreciation to medical professionals and first responders around the globe for their tireless efforts in providing critical care while facing great personal risk during the pandemic,” said HanesBrands Chief Executive Officer Gerald W. Evans Jr. “Our company and employees are honored to do all that we can to support and protect those fighting COVID-19 on the front lines.”

The N95 mask is a respiratory protective device designed to achieve a very close facial fit and very efficient filtration of airborne particles, according to the U.S. Food and Drug Administration. The N95 designation means that when subjected to careful testing, the respirator blocks at least 95 percent of very small particles and can reduce the risk of illness for medical professionals when properly fitted.

HanesBrands, the world’s largest basic apparel manufacturer, and a consortium of other apparel makers are supplying the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services with more than 650 million FDA-approved all-cotton face masks for use in healthcare and other settings when technical N95 respirators or surgical medical masks are not required.
