Saturday, November 16, 2019
SAN SALVADOR, EL SALVADOR (November 16, 2019). HanesBrands carried out the tenth graduation of the educational program carried out with the support of the Ministry of Education and various specialized entities in the country. A decade after implementing this initiative, the company graduated its first class of employees from university careers, making it the only textile and clothing company in the country to have achieved this feat.
During the ceremony, Hanes made a formal delivery of university degrees to 26 employees, from bachelor to 88 and accredited 412 employees who completed specialized courses that include various national and international certifications. The certifications were given through the Dr. Matías Delgado universities, the José Simeón Cañas Central American University, the Panamerican University, the ITCA-FEPADE Specialized School in Engineering and had the support of INSAFORP and the Chamber of the Textile and Clothing Industry, CAMTEX.
Since 2009, under the HanesBrands Educational Program, the company has invested an approximate of 2.5 million dollars to benefit the education of its employees, graduating 2,711 employees from high school and training 100 managers with master’s degrees in El Salvador, Honduras and Dominican Republic. The Educational Program also includes all those certifications in industrial specialties taught within the mechanics schools managed by the company in the region.
“We have worked for a decade to provide our employees with one of the most precious assets for human beings: access to education. With this new graduation, we reaffirm our commitment to improve the living conditions of the communities where we operate, we believe in the ability of our employees to develop and we give them opportunities to boost their potential, ”said María Elena Sikaffy, Vice President of Human Resources at HanesBrands for the Western Hemisphere.
Since 2009, Hanes has added more than one million hours in training initiatives and educational specialization for its employees throughout Central America. The company maintains a strong commitment to the permanent development of its workforce and has established itself as a benchmark company in regional educational and training models.
According to the human resources leader, the opportunity given to employees to continue their studies also affects the productivity of workers within the company; since you get higher loyalty, as well as a more motivated workforce to carry out your day-to-day operations.
One of the main focuses of Hanes Organizational Development strategy is precisely education at all levels of the company. Hanes provides a number of benefits to keep its staff motivated and trained such as: three talent development centers, a school for industrial mechanics and a school for textile mechanics, both unique in the region. The company is soon getting ready to inaugurate an Innovation and Development Center. The company covers the costs of coordinating the learning programs, subsidizes school supplies, and supports adjusting work schedules with study hours.
“Thanks to the Hanes educational program, I had access to a university degree and different courses and trainings that allowed me to improve my skills. I never imagined that I could become a supervisor when I started as a line auditor, ”said Roberto Javier Ramírez, an employee at the Socks plant.
Hanes has operated for 27 years in El Salvador, where it has established itself as one of the main employers with its six manufacturing, cutting and sewing plants. The company has also been the largest exporter in the country for six consecutive years since 2013, registering at the end of last year 830 million dollars in sales abroad.
