Transformative Surgeries Improve Lives of Latin Americans

January 2025

“Our medical brigades have become an essential support, improving the lives of people in vulnerable conditions by providing relief and facilitating life-changing procedures.”

– HanesBrands Global Sustainability Officer Teddy Mendoza

Since 2012, HanesBrands has partnered with the Atrium Wake Forest Baptist Hospital in North Carolina to lead medical missions that have provided surgical care to more than 1,400 Latin Americans in need.

These medical missions, which take place over approximately five days, carry out surgeries for patients who include HanesBrands associates, their family members, and people from the local community.

In 2024, our medical brigades in the Dominican Republic coordinated 130 specialized ENT (ear, nose, throat) surgeries performed by Wake Forest doctors.

The ENT procedures treated tonsils and adenoids, cleft palate, cleft lip, eardrum perforations, and more.

More than 200 HanesBrands DR associates volunteered during the each of the medical missions.

“Born from HanesBrands’ commitment to improving the lives of our people, this initiative brings health, hope, and new opportunities to the most vulnerable communities,” Mariela Moronta, global sustainability manager – HanesBrands DR, said. “Thanks to our team of volunteers, the professionals of the Atrium Wake Forest Baptist Hospital, and all of the people involved, this project sows a legacy of solidarity, empowerment and well-being.”

Our health initiatives in 2024 also flourished in Honduras, where we sponsored eye and vision care efforts. Doctors from Wake Forest and Lions Club Fraternity Hospital helped 167 patients with vision problems and were able to perform 35 surgical procedures for cataracts, corneal transplants, and more.

HanesBrands is committed to helping our associates thrive, building the communities where we live and work, and demonstrating that when we lean on strong alliances, we create comfort and improve lives.
